The ethics of blogging

With so many blogs out there in cyberspace it’s important that we follow some guidelines to make sure that our work is appropriate for publication. The following is a 10 point guide on ethical blogging  that can help us navigate through what we should (or should not) be doing whilst we join the millions of other bloggers out there.

1. Differentiate between truth and opinion

2. Do not plagiarise

3. Link to relevant source material and give credit where it is due

4. Correct mistakes as soon as possible

5. Encourage audience participation and freedom of speech

6. Be transparent about personal associations of conflicts of interest

7. Remember that blogs do not exist in a vacuum

8. Take full responsibility for anything that you post

9. Consider the possible effects of every post you make

10. Attempt to foster a sense of online community
